Can I Get 0% APR Financing on a New Buick or GMC?

Zero percent APR shows up in ads all over Cypress, and the question underneath it is always the same. Does that rate apply to me, on the vehicle I actually want?

Most shoppers treat it as one storewide deal that is either on or off. Zero percent works differently. It is one rate tied to one model, one term, and one credit tier through GM Financial, so your job is to check those three things instead of chasing the headline.

Keep reading below, then schedule a test drive near Katy. Bringing your own numbers to the lot settles this faster than any spec sheet.

Zero percent APR is real, and it lands on one vehicle at a time.

Yes, and there is a live example. GMC advertises 0% APR for well-qualified buyers on the 2026 Sierra 1500 (GMC, 2026). That is one model, in one model year. Nothing about it carries over to a Yukon, an Acadia, or a Buick Envision parked in the same row, because each of those vehicles has its own program, its own term, and its own end date.

Manufacturer rates are set by the manufacturer and funded through GM Financial, so no dealership writes them. They rotate by model, by region, and by month. The useful version of the question is longer than the one in the ad: on which vehicle, at which term, and in which credit tier?

What the words on an offer sheet actually mean

Four terms carry most of the confusion on a new-vehicle ad, and knowing them changes how you read one. APR is the yearly cost of borrowing. A purchase allowance is manufacturer cash applied to the deal. Well-qualified describes the top credit tier. Deferred payments move your first due date without lowering what you owe.

Term What it means for your deal
APR The yearly cost of the loan, stated as a rate
Well-qualified buyer The lender’s top credit tier, and the tier 0% is written for
Purchase allowance Manufacturer cash applied to the price, separate from the rate
Bonus cash An extra manufacturer credit tied to one model or one period
Deferred payments Your first payment starts later; what you owe stays the same
Amount financed Price plus tax and fees, minus your down payment and trade

Model, term, and credit tier decide the rate you are quoted.

Three variables set the number that ends up on your contract, and all three can be checked before you shop. The model decides which program applies. The term decides which rate inside that program applies. Your credit tier decides whether you reach the advertised rate at all.

The model and model year. A program is written against a specific vehicle. The 2026 Sierra 1500 offer says nothing about a 2026 Terrain or a 2027 Acadia, even in the same showroom.

The term. A promotional rate always arrives with a number of months attached. The same truck can carry one rate at a short term and a different rate at a long one, and a payment quoted without a term is not a quote.

Your credit tier. Lenders price in bands. Two buyers can want the same Sierra, on the same day, at the same term, and sign two different rates.

Your credit tier moves the rate more than the offer does

Credit tier changes your payment more than any incentive on the hood. Experian put the average new-car APR at 4.55% for borrowers scoring 781 and above in the first quarter of 2026 (Experian, 2026). That is the tier promotional offers are written for. Everything below it gets priced by risk, one band at a time.

Where your credit sits Your first move What to expect on a promotional rate
781 and up Apply for pre-approval, then ask for the promotional rate by name The tier 0% programs are written for
660 to 780 Get pre-approved first, then ask which tier you landed in A standard retail rate, with cash often the better half
Below 660 Line up a co-signer or a larger down payment Star of Texas Credit Union asks for a co-signer under 660
No credit history Start with a lender that publishes a floor LendingTree lists Capital One approving scores as low as 500

Pull your own score before a lender does. If your tier is not what you assumed, you want to find that out at your kitchen table.

What to do when your credit sits below the top tier

Work the amount financed, because the rate is the part you cannot argue with. Experian put the average new-car APR at 16.01% for borrowers scoring 300 to 500 in the first quarter of 2026 (Experian, 2026). At that rate, every dollar you keep out of the loan saves you more than any conversation about the sticker.

Bring a co-signer. Plenty of lenders ask for one below a 660 score, and the co-signer’s tier is what prices the loan.

Put more down, and use your trade. Both do the same job. They shrink the balance the interest gets applied to.

Take the shortest term you can carry. A long term hides a high rate inside a comfortable payment, and you pay for the comfort at the end.

Get pre-approved before you shop. Walking in with an approved number turns the store into a place that has to beat it.

But zero percent is not automatically the cheaper deal

Zero percent and manufacturer cash are usually two doors, and you walk through one of them. GMC advertises 3.9% APR for 5 years with a $2,000 purchase allowance and 90 days of deferred payments as the alternative for buyers whose trade is not a GM vehicle (GMC, 2026). Which door costs less comes down to your balance and your term.

Run it on a real number. Finance $50,000 over 60 months at 3.9% and the interest comes to about $5,100. A $2,000 allowance does not cover that, so on that balance the free rate is the cheaper door. Cut the balance or the term and the gap narrows, because there is less interest left for the cash to beat.

Read total-value figures the same way. GMC’s advertised $11,549 total value on the 2026 Sierra 1500 counts $4,949 in average finance savings alongside a $3,500 trade allowance, a $1,350 engine credit, and $1,750 bonus cash, and it assumes an eligible trade-in (GMC, 2026). Those finance savings are the interest you avoid by taking the free rate. Treating them as a separate discount adds the same money to your deal twice.

Get your real rate on one stock number before you go in

Ask for the rate on a specific vehicle, by stock number, with the term attached. A model-level quote is a guess. A stock number plus a term plus an approved tier is a number you can compare against anything. All of it starts from home: value your trade, apply for pre-approval, then ask what came back.

What to ask Why it matters A useful answer sounds like
What is the APR, and for how many months? A rate without a term is not a quote APR rate and loan term for a single vehicle
Which allowances do I give up at this rate? Free rates and cash usually trade against each other A dollar figure you can compare
Am I approved, or pre-qualified? Only an approval carries a tier The lender and the tier, in writing
What is the out-the-door number? Tax, title, and fees get financed too One total, itemized
What does this look like on a shorter term? Shorter terms cost less overall A second payment and total to weigh

Where GM Financial promotional financing sits among your options

Every buyer weighing a 0% ad is really choosing among a handful of ways to borrow, and each one prices risk differently. Here is how the four routes compare on who sets the rate, what credit reaches the best tier, and what each one costs you elsewhere.

Financing route Who sets the rate What reaches the best tier What it costs you elsewhere
GM Financial promotional APR at Group 1 Buick GMC North GM, by model, term, and tier Well-qualified credit, plus an eligible trade for the full advertised value Often the cash allowance you would otherwise take
Standard retail loan arranged in store The lender’s tier sheet that day 781 and up averaged 4.55% new-car APR (Experian, Q1 2026) Nothing promotional; the rate follows your credit
Credit union pre-approval The credit union’s own tier sheet Star of Texas Credit Union asks for a co-signer under 660 No access to a manufacturer 0% program
Online lender marketplace Each lender inside the network LendingTree lists Capital One approving scores as low as 500 A wide rate range, and approval alone is not a good rate

Frequently asked questions

Does 0% APR require financing through GM Financial?

Yes. Manufacturer promotional rates are funded through GM Financial, so an outside bank or credit union loan cannot carry one. You can still bring an outside pre-approval and compare it against the promotional rate before you decide.

Is 0% APR available on a Buick Envision or Encore GX?

Buick runs its own programs, model by model and region by region, so the Envision and the Encore GX each have to be checked on the day you are shopping. Ask for the rate and the term on the specific stock number you want, and check again if you wait a month.

Can I get 0% APR on a certified pre-owned Buick or GMC?

Promotional 0% offers are written for new vehicles. Certified pre-owned Buick and GMC vehicles carry their own financing programs, at rates that sit above new-vehicle promotional rates.

Does a larger down payment help me qualify for 0% APR?

A down payment does not move your credit tier, and the tier is what qualification turns on. It does lower the amount financed, which lowers your payment and shrinks the total interest at whatever rate you land in.

How long does a 0% APR offer last?

Manufacturer programs run to published end dates, usually monthly, and a new set replaces them. Re-check a rate you saw last month before you build a payment around it.

Will applying with more than one lender hurt my credit?

Auto-loan shopping done inside a short window is treated as one search, so two or three applications close together are normal. Spread the same applications across several months and they read as separate attempts.

Does 0% APR mean I pay nothing extra?

The rate is your borrowing cost, and it is one line of the bill. You still owe sales tax, title, license, and dealer fees, and those get financed along with the price unless you pay them up front.

Zero percent belongs to a vehicle, a term, and a tier.

Zero percent APR is real, and it is narrow. Each offer attaches to one vehicle, at one term, for one credit tier, and right now GMC is running one on the 2026 Sierra 1500. Checking those three things takes less time than the drive to a dealership, and it tells you whether the headline is yours. What it cannot tell you is the number on your own contract. That comes from one stock number, one term, and one approval.

The three things that decide your rate can all be checked before you leave the house, so that is how we built the front of the process. Value your trade online, apply for pre-approval, and we come back with the rate and term on the specific Buick or GMC you picked from our FM 1960 inventory in northwest Houston. Buyers rate us 4.4 stars across 7,792 Google reviews, more than any other Buick or GMC dealership in the Katy area.

What customers name most often has little to do with rates and everything to do with being told the numbers straight. In a May 2026 DealerRater review, a buyer wrote: “This was the best car shopping experience we’ve had. Lee was an excellent representative of Buick Group 1 very transparent, thorough, knowledgeable and extremely kind. We enjoyed doing business with him.” Another DealerRater reviewer wrote in July 2026 that “Lee Hobson worked tirelessly and flawlessly to ensure a seamless and advantageous transaction from start to finish.”

The work continues after the paperwork is signed, in the service drive on the same lot. A Carfax reviewer in July 2026 wrote: “They were able to diagnose, get approval from my warranty company, and repair my vehicle all in one day.”
